About this generation

The first-generation Volvo FH16 combined the all-new FH cab with Volvo's powerful 16.1-litre D16A engine, setting a new benchmark for heavy-duty transport. Introduced in 1993, it replaced the legendary Volvo F16 and quickly became the flagship truck for long-haul and heavy haulage operations. Designed for operators demanding maximum performance, the FH16 featured high power outputs, exceptional torque and Volvo Engine Brake (VEB), making it one of the most capable heavy-duty trucks of its era. The new cab also delivered improved aerodynamics, driver comfort and safety compared with the previous F-series.
