About this generation

The 2002 facelift refined the original Volvo FH with improved aerodynamics, updated styling, enhanced safety and the introduction of the revolutionary I-Shift automated manual transmission.

Introduced in 2002, the updated Volvo FH retained the successful first-generation cab while receiving significant technical and visual improvements. The front grille, headlights and interior were redesigned, while the D12D engine family delivered higher efficiency and lower emissions. The biggest innovation was the launch of Volvo's I-Shift automated transmission, which quickly became one of the industry's most influential heavy-duty gearboxes.
