About this generation

The Tatra 148 was introduced as a major development of the Tatra 138 and entered full series production in 1972. It retained Tatra's characteristic backbone chassis, independent swing-axle suspension and air-cooled V8 diesel architecture while receiving increased engine power, improved reliability, greater payload capability and numerous technical refinements. The range covered construction, mining, transport, military and specialist applications and remained in production until 1982, including the extensively updated T2-148 introduced in 1979.
