About this generation
The Tatra 138 was introduced in 1959 as the successor to the Tatra 111 and represented a major modernization of Tatra's heavy-duty truck concept. It retained the company's characteristic backbone chassis and independent suspension while introducing a new cab, improved driver environment, power steering, air-assisted clutch operation and an electro-pneumatic auxiliary gearbox. The Tatra 138 was produced in a wide range of road, construction and military configurations until 1971.
