About this generation
The Freightliner WF-5844 Mountaineer was a four-wheel-drive tractor introduced in 1954 to provide improved traction for demanding on- and off-highway applications.
The Mountaineer was developed from Freightliner's early WF cab-over-engine architecture and added four-wheel drive for heavy-duty traction in difficult terrain and mountainous routes.
