About this generation

The Tatra 128 was a medium-duty 4x4 military truck developed for the Czechoslovak Army and produced from 1951 to 1952. Derived heavily from the Tatra 111, it used a shortened air-cooled V8 engine, Tatra's backbone-frame concept and a dedicated cab with a distinctive reverse-sloped windscreen.

The Tatra 128 was developed rapidly in response to a Czechoslovak Army requirement for a three-ton off-road truck. Much of its mechanical architecture and bodywork was derived from the larger Tatra 111, while the new T108 V8 engine was effectively a shortened version of the T111's V12. Series production began in 1951 and ended on 31 December 1952 after approximately 4,060 vehicles had been built.
